To the destructive fury of Etna it has been found the tenacity of the Etnean populations who have always reconstructed what the Volcano had destroyed. And just from lava stone they have known how to get the building material and that for the reconstruction, but also for works of art and original ones. The basalt erupted from Etna has been changed by the ability of the local craftsmen for all the aesthetical demands followed one another during millenniums .In the eighteenth-century reconstruction of Oriental Sicily, after the earthquakeof 1663 , gathers the highest expression of the architectural use of the Etnean basalt with the masterpieces of the Baroque which can be admired especially in the historical centre of Catania. The Etnean craftsmen, in working lava stone have succeeded in understanding and in pointing out its brightness and its resistance . The old millstones, the villas with the magnificent portals and balconies, the paved roads.

Alla furia distruttiva dell'Etna ha fatto riscontro la tenacia delle popolazioni etnee, che hanno  sempre ricostruito ciò che il Vulcano distruggeva. E' proprio dalle lave si sono sapute ricavare  le materie prime per l'edilizia e la ricostruzione, ma anche delle opere d'arte e d'ingegno. Il basalto eruttato dall'Etna è stato piegato dalla capacità  dell'artigianato locale a tutte le esigenze estetiche succedutesi nel corso dei millenni. Nella ricostruzione settecentesca della Sicilia Orientale, dopo il terremoto del 1663, si concentra la più alta espressione dell'utilizzo architettonico del basalto etneo con i capolavori del barocco che si possono ammirare specialmente nel  centro storico di Catania. Gli artigiani etnei, nel lavorare la pietra lavica, sono riusciti a coglierne ed evidenziarne lo splendore e la resistenza. Bellissimi a vedersi i vecchi palmenti in pietra, le ville  dai magnifici portali e balconi, le strade lastricate, ecc.

By working lava stone they get products for the flooring of insides and outsides, decorative manufactured articles for private buildings and public ones, as columns, capitals, fountains, swimming pools, tables, chairs and fireplaces. Nowadays they have found in lava stone good characteristics that allow to steer the production into manufactured articles for the  cooking  of foods as slabs and  barbecues. Another point of strength is the production of lava stone with ceramic coating with which they get extraordinary aesthetical results for the realization of job plans for sectional kitchens and  stone ones, indoor tables or outdoor ones with bases in wrought iron or for creations of city furniture such as pictorial panels and artistic fountains. The  majolica  lava  stone, with its particular characteristics,opens new spaces in architecture and in furnishing. It is the final masterpiece of  the  technological  and  artistic  intervention.

La lavorazione della pietra lavica spazia dai prodotti per la pavimentazione di interni ed esterni, ai manufatti decorativi per edifici privati e pubblici  come colonne, capitelli, fontane, piscine, tavoli, sedie e caminetti. Oggi sono state individuate nella pietra lavica ottime caratteristiche che permettono di orientare la produzione anche verso manufatti per la cottura dei cibi come piastre e barbecue. Un'altro punto di forza è la produzion della pietra lavica dell'Etna ceramizzata, con la quale si ottengono straordinari risultati estetici per la realizzazione di piani di lavoro per cucine in muratura o componibili, tavoli da interno o da giardino con basi in ferro battuto o per creazioni di arredo urbano, quali pannelli pittorici e fontane artistiche. La pietra lavica maiolicata, con le sue speciali caratteristiche, apre nuovi spazi in architettura e in arredamento. Essa è il capolavoro finale  dell'intervento  tecnologico  ed  artistico.
