Il carretto siciliano, nato come mezzo di trasporto delle merci e delle persone,  è uno degli oggetti più conosciuti e caratteristici  dell'arte  popolare  siciliana. Strettamente legato alla  storia economica e culturale dell'isola  è diventato in seguito il simbolo della Sicilia e della sua tradizione. Questi folkloristici capolavori si manifestano agli occhi di chi li guarda con una fantasmagoria  di immagini e colori. Il colore del sole siciliano, dello zolfo, delle arance e dei limoni, delle angurie e dei ficodindia, del cielo e del mare, della lava che sgorga dall'Etna e della focosità dei siciliani. The Sicilian puppet theatre, for its tipycalness and exclusiveness, for its stylistic and figurative structure with which the deeds of the paladins of France are represented, it symbolizes one among the most peculiar expressions of the Sicilian folk culture. The puppet theatre is not a theatre of simple marionettes but it is true theatre in which the characters, also being made out of wood, they take, as for magic, life and voice through the puppeteers. The puppeteers are the operators of the puppet that are on a box behind or above the scene and who, together with the puppet, are protagonists of a spettacle that fascinate the audience and partecipe makes them. The Sicilian puppet is a work of unique art, a wood sculpture, metal and cloth, moved by two metallic arms, one on the head and the other in the right hand, and by some threads generally of string. The puppeteers are of the true  theatrical  artists,  authors, scenographers  and  actors.

L'Opera dei Pupi, per  la  sua tipicità ed esclusività,  per la sua struttura stilistica e figurativa con cui vengono rappresentate le gesta dei paladini di Francia, rappresenta una tra le più singolari espressioni della cultura popolare siciliana. Il teatro dei pupi non è un teatro di semplici marionette ma è vero teatro in cui i personaggi, pur essendo di legno, prendono, come per magia, vita e voce per mezzo dei pupari. I pupari sono i manovratori dei pupi che stanno su un palchetto dietro o sopra la scena e che assieme ai pupi sono protagonisti di uno spettacolo che affascina il pubblico e lo rende partecipe. Il pupo siciliano é un'opera d'arte unica, una scultura di legno, metallo e stoffa, mossa da due aste metalliche, una sulla testa e l'altra nella mano destra, e, da alcuni fili generalmente di spago. I pupari sono dei veri artisti teatrali. Oltre ad essere autori, scenografi ed attori, danno voce  e  sentimento  ai  loro  pupi  coperti  di  armature.
